Can load in RAM but not store in memory OWL Pedal Mk1

Hello!

I’ve been trying to find this issue in the forum and have a memory of seeing a post but can’t find it again, apologies if I’m repeating a question.

From the patch library, I’m currently able to “load” a patch to RAM, but when I try to store it in a slot (any slot), it doesn’t store (no error message or anything).

I haven’t been using my OWL Pedal Mk1 for a while so not up to date with all of the latest developments. I installed firmware 22.2.2 with the WebDFU (file “OwlPedal.bin”).

Any clue if I’m doing something wrong or experience of this issue?

Thanks!
Alejandro

Hi Alejandro,
You should probably upgrade firmware and erase patch storage. If you only installed firmware and use it with the old bootloader, you will have to flash MIDI bootloader to be able to use latest firmware that are only distributed in Sysex format.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply! It has taken me some time to get back to this and figure out how to go through the steps.
I believe I have successfully flashed the MIDI bootloader. However, I suspect for some reasons I am not managing to actually install the latest firmware. When I go through the process, it says “complete” but then I get error messages when using the patch library. Here are the messages I get:

  • Firmware version: OWL Pedal Boot v22.2.0
  • Program Message: Bootloader OK [x4]
  • Reading file OwlPedal.syx
  • Sending data 311119 bytes
  • Program Message: Firmware upload in progress [x5]
  • Program Message: Firmware upload complete

  • Unique Device ID: 002e0032:32334719:38323431
  • Program Message: Invalid STORE command

Also, if I disconnect it and reconnect it, I get the message repeated:

  • Program Message: Invalid SysEx

Any clue if something is going wrong for the firmware installation, or something else? I followed the instructions on the OpenWareLaboratory page, although for “Device Reset” I just clicked on the button (am I supposed to do something physically on the pedal?).

Thanks!

Hmm, that log looks like you’ve tried to erase patch storage during firmware upload, that might give some unexpected results. Maybe try again without doing that.

Hi, pretty sure I waited until it said “Firmware upload completed” before erasing patch storage (from the patch library).

Just tried again, waited for “Firmware upload completed”, clicked “Device reset”, and connected to Patch library, and am getting these error messages:

  • Firmware version: OWL Pedal Boot v22.2.0
  • Program Message: Bootloader OK [x7]
  • Reading file OwlPedal.syx
  • Sending data 311119 bytes
  • Program Message: Firmware upload in progress [x6]
