Setting the blocksize: update to OwlControl?

Today I got a question from a user how we could set the blocksize on OWL.

Since this is not something you can do from a patch it needs to either be built into the device firmware or using OwlControl.

Since OwlControl hasn’t been updated in the about a decade I’m unable to get it to work with my OWL3 boards.
I am also unable to build it locally from source, so there is no way for me to modify it either.

Are there any other methods for retreiving and setting the blocksize of an OWL board?

I managed to brute-force the build using antigravity free tokens: https://github.com/pingdynasty/OwlControl/pull/14/changes

This works slightly better than the release build as well, since we now get some info on stdout and it correctly identifies the firmware version on the device.

It doesn’t show the current blocksize though, and I’m not sure if setting the blocksize makes any difference. Although it does output some things on stdout: tx sysex BS: 256

You can request all settings with SYSEX_CONFIGURATION_COMMAND, then parse them results to obtain all settings. This is what OwlControl does.

Since this is not something you can do from a patch it needs to either be built into the device firmware or using OwlControl.

Or you can just send BS configuration from OpenWareLaboratory

Setting block size only from external software and not from the patch was most likely a design decision, simply because it was up to device owner rather than patch author to decide. I’m pretty sure that changing BS requires restarting the patch, so it can’t be done by patch itself.

Hmm, this page is new to me. Why are these things not linked to from a common location? :stuck_out_tongue:

So how does one “send BS configuration” from that page? In the Message field? How should the mesage be formatted?

Settings / Set Configuration: BS in the left field, your value in the right, then Send

And you can click Store nearby to save current settings to flash, otherwise your changes are only stored in memory.

Thnx! Too bad it doesn’t show the current setting to confirm.

Can’t confirm this right now, but I think the Query / Settings checkbox will poll for exactly that

This only says

Firmware version: Lich v22.5.0
Bootloader version: N/A
Device Stats: Storage 452352/8388608
